Soccer Legend Peter Shilton In Action |
Peter Shilton, the most capped England player of all time is joining Grass Roots Football LIVE as the official brand ambassador for IGOAL, sponsors of the Goalkeepers Arena in the Skills Zone.
Goalkeeping legend Peter made a record 125 National appearances for the England team. He was still playing at international level in the 1990 World Cup at the age 40.
Peter was the youngest player to play for Leicester City at the tender age of16 - taking over from the equally legendary Gordon Banks.
Throughout his amazing 30 year career he played for 11 English league clubs through which he accumulated a record 1005 League appearances.
In 1977, Shilton joined the newly promoted Nottingham Forest, who went on to shock the footballing world by winning the league title on their return to the top flight. Even bigger success followed as Shilton was a big factor in Nottingham Forest winning two successive European Cups.
During his playing career Peter won the PFA player of the year and has received the MBE and OBE for his services to football. In 1990 after his retirement he was awarded the Order of Merit by the PFA.
Perhaps one of the most remembered moments in Peter’s career was in 1986 when he became the victim of Maradona's cheating 'hand of God’ and the famous individual goal Maradona scored by snaking through the majority of the England side before rounding Shilton to score.
It is an amazing opportunity for all goalkeepers and anyone coming along to GRFS to see Peter in action when he joins England U19 goalkeeper coach, Simon Smith, who will be providing specialist goalkeeping sessions for ‘the most important player in the team’!

|
Peter Rose from Redyset with Gordon Smith, CEO, Scottish FA with an IGOAL. |
When 9 year old Calumn Tippett entered a competition in MATCH! , his favored weekly read, he did not dare to hope he’d win once…let alone end up with a two-part prize.
Calumn who lives near Dundee has been playing football for 3 years for his local team Monifieth Athletic. Despite playing left back he has scored 1 goal during his career which he describes as his greatest football moment “It was a cracker!” said Calumn.
Now thanks to MATCH! and Redyset, Calumn is able to practice his goal scoring techniques with his very own Home IGOAL, the revolutionary portable goal which was the prize.
Both Calumn and his Dad are life-long footie fanatics and loyal supporters of Dundee. They were therefore delighted when Redyset organized for the prize to be presented by Gordon Smith at Hampden Park where they were able to see bits of Hampden Park that no one else gets to see, even in the visitors tour!
Says Calumn, now 10, “It was brilliant. We had lots of pictures taken beside the pitch, got to see the changing rooms and warm up area and even got invited up to Gordon’s office ! We saw the exhibition of the 74 trophies and I got signed pictures of the team and the manager.”
Arnot Tippett, Calumn’s Dad commented “I think I had as much fun as Calumn. I’d really like to thank the people from IGOAL and also Gordon Smith - he was a real gentleman. His staff made sure that Calumn had a fantastic day and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. This was a real boyhood dream come true and we’ll both have memories for life.”
So, a name for the Scottish FA to watch for the future? And also great news – keep entering those competitions, you may be the lucky winner next time.
Redyset were only too delighted that the day was successful and that they got to meet the prize winner too. CEO, Peter Rose said “Watch this space for further news of IGOALs as they spread northward and everyone finds out that you can unpack, pump up and play football anytime, anywhere – it really is that easy!”

Soccer in the Sand is a company that will host youth soccer tournaments on the beach. The aim is to bring sand soccer not only to the players in Southern California but throughout the United States.
The tournaments are aimed to bring players and families together in a safe and fun atmosphere while enjoying the game of soccer in the sand! Sand soccer is played on a smaller field and due to the size of the pitch and number of players (4 + goalkeeper), everyone will get more touches on the ball which allows them to try new moves and show off their skills.
Chris Lemay who is the owner of Soccer in the Sand, is a NCAA Division 1 Coach and also a USSF “A” licensed coach in the US. His sessions include skill work, fitness, passing and receiving, finishing, diving headers, volleys and bicycle kicks! He believes everyone could use a break from the daily routine and enjoy sand and sun – he evens runs a Soccer ‘Moms’ in the Sand programme.
All the while safety and fun is the objective – which is why Chris uses iGoals for his Soccer in the Sand programs. Whilst this may not be possible during the winter months in the UK, this is a great opportunity for those long summer holidays. Look out for Soccer in the Sand, Miami Beach, Florida this year with RedySet America and maybe even a beach near you in the UK?
The Redyset team flew to Chicago and then drove south to attend the NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.
This is the biggest event in the US soccer calendar with over 9,000 people attending over the 4 days including soccer coaches travelling from all over the US and the highlight being 300 exhibitors in the hall.
The team were kept busy with strong interest in the IGOAL and the benefits it can bring to the coaches. Anthony Amato, a soccer coach and Director of a football club in Northern Virginia said “I walked past the goal three times before I realized that it was an inflatable goal. It certainly is a quality product that will do very well in the US – football has been growing every year and has millions playing the sport at a youth level throughout the country”.
Fox Soccer Channel broadcast a live show from the convention and followed this up with an overview of the show on their popular Sunday evening Soccer Report. Jeremy St Louis, from Fox Report Soccer World said “The show offered everything you could think of in soccer and some you may not……such as an inflatable goal” Tommy Caswell and Robert Cantle demonstrated the IGOAL and Peter Rose described its undoubted benefits for the cameras.
There was a competition to Win an IGOAL during the convention. Mike Blatz, pictured, who is Director of Coaching at Century United of Pittsburgh FC, was delighted to be one of the lucky two. He said “The flexibility and ease of use make it great as a training and recreational goal. Space is always limited so it is great to be able to store it away”.
Also winning a goal was Lt Col Doug Hill who is Assistant Coach of Mens Soccer of the Air Force Falcons based in Colorado.
While exhibiting in the USA, FOX news took time to interview Peter Rose showing a demonstration of the IGOAL, the footage was broadcast across America giving us a great platform to help promote the IGOAL. Watch the footage now!
Just published is the June issue of the glossy football monthly FourFourTwo – the editorial team were so impressed with the IGOAL that there is a feature article – ‘Back o’the IGOAL!’
Unpack. Pump up. Play football. It really is that easy...
Football is the global game partly because it’s so easy to play: all you need is a ball. But while jumpers for goalposts are all well and good, you really can’t beat the satisfying swish sound of ball on net. Now you can enjoy the experience anywhere thanks to IGOAL – a truly portable goalmouth in a bag. Easy to transport, fully inflatable and lightweight, the IGOAL comes in six sizes from mini (6’x4’) to adult (24’x8’) and comes with a pre-attached net, making it a doddle to set up. For prices and more information about this bag-bound brilliance, visit the website!
Not bad praise from the ultimate football magazine.
‘It was a busy weekend for the Redyset team at Grass Roots show which was held at the Ricoh Centre. All members of the team were flat out over both days with enquiries. “It was the first time a large audience would have seen our product in the UK. GRFS was an ideal opportunity for Redyset and were very pleased with the Results” said Peter Rose, who runs Redyset in the UK. The account managers are now following up on all those who expressed an interest in the IGOALS and we delighted with orders taken at the show.”
When Summertown Stars AFC girls under 10 team decided to adopt the Oxford Children’s Hospital as their charity for the season, little did they realise that there was already a link between the club and the hospital. It simply seemed like a good idea to raise money for such an excellent local cause.
It was only when the club was organizing its annual 5 a-side tournament that any connection was discovered. The Summertown Stars girls under 10’s manager Paul Chamberlain approached its kit supplier, Elmer Cotton, to see if they would place an advert in the tournament programme. Dale Harris, the manager at Elmer Cotton, casually mentioned that it was nice to see that the Stars were supporting his daughter’s charity. Dale’s daughter, Mya Harris, suffers from Spina Bifida, and is a regular at the Oxford Children’s Hospital, and the link was established.
Then the club landed a bit of a coup. Barclays Plc generously agreed to bring the Barclays Premiership Trophy to the 5 a–side tournament, so that the club could try and generate donations for CHOX and the club. Quickly other deals were struck. www.redyset.com readily agreed to donate a mini IGOAL to the hospital for their children’s play area. They also kindly ran the penalty shoot out throughout the weekend.
Over the tournament weekend, 114 children’s football teams from as far a field as Peckham in London, Reading and Cheltenham, came and played in the competitions. The standard of football was high, but most importantly the children had fun.
To cap a great weekend, Summertown Stars girls under 10 team played great football, and managed to finish runners-up behind St. Edmunds in their competition. Over £1,000 was raised at the tournament for CHOX at the hospital, and the event was a resounding success.
Interest in the IGOAL during the weekend and requests for further demonstrations was tremendous with many teams in the Oxford area now making full use of their IGOALS during pre-season build up.
Redyset was pleased to attend many other tournaments in the busy in-between season period and these include not only those in the Oxford area but also in Lancashire, Surrey and E Sussex areas.
